The wedding at Cana

1On the third day a wedding was held at Cana in Galilee, and Jesus's mother was there. 2Jesus had been invited to the wedding too, along with His disciples. 3When the wine gave out, Jesus's mother said to Him, "They have no wine left." 4Jesus said to her, "Woman, is that a matter for you and Me?My hour has not yet come." 5His mother said to the servants, "Do as He tells you, whatever it is." 6Six stone water jars stood there, kept for Jewish ritual washing; each held about 20 to 30 gallons. 7Jesus said to them, "Fill the jars with water." They filled them up to the top. 8Then He said to them, "Now dip some out and carry it to the man in charge of the feast." And they did. 9The man in charge of the feast tasted the water that had become wine. He had no idea where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. He called the bridegroom over 10and said to him, "Every host sets out the good wine first, and the lesser wine once the guests are drunk. But you have kept back the good wine until now." 11Jesus did this at Cana in Galilee as the first of the signs. In it He revealed His glory, and His disciples believed in Him. 12After this He went down to Capernaum, together with His mother, His brothers and His disciples. They did not stay there many days. 13The Jewish festival of Passover was approaching, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14In the temple courts He found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and money changers sitting there. 15He made a whip out of cords and drove them all out of the temple courts, sheep and cattle alike. He spilled the money changers' coins and turned their tables over. 16To the dove sellers He said, "Take all this away from here! Do not make My Father's house a house of business." 17His disciples remembered that it is written: "Zeal for Your house will devour Me." 18The Jewish leaders then said to Him, "What sign do You show us to justify doing these things?" 19Jesus replied, "Tear this temple down, and I will raise it up again within three days." 20The Jewish leaders said, "Forty-six years this temple has been under construction, and You will raise it up in three days?" 21But the temple He meant was His own body. 22Later, when He had been raised from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this, and they believed the Scripture and what Jesus had said. 23During the Passover festival, while He was in Jerusalem, many came to believe in His name as they watched the signs He was doing. 24But Jesus, for His part, would not trust Himself to them, because He knew all people. 25He did not need anyone to testify to Him about people, for He Himself knew what was in a person.
